“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Mark 8:36-37
Elvis Presley was know around the world as the “King of Rock and Roll.” The Bible says, “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:9-10
I believe this passage is talking about what happened to Elvis Presley. He grew up in a Christian home, went to a Bible believing church. Wanted to sing with the Blackwood Brothers Quartet. But fame, wealth and success got in the way. Elvis told a preacher friend, “You know, I’d like to serve God, but I’ve signed so many contracts, I don’t even own myself anymore.” After Elvis finished recording at RCA Victor’s Studios in Nashville, Lowell Lundstrom an evangelist followed him . The engineers shook their heads and one of them said, “Poor Elvis, everybody’s always telling him what to do.”
Was Elvis king? Not really, though he had fame, fortune, lots of money, women and many hits on the charts. He was a wreck, dying of a drug overdose and his doctor’s said he had the veins of an eighty year old man. His nurse said he was the loneliest man she had ever met. People who chase after the world for its gain, is sucked into it’s web of deception and eventually crushed by the false god of riches. The irony about life is a person can usually get what they want but after they have it, seldom are they happy with what they have ended up with.
IT’S BETTER TO KNOW THE KING OF GLORY THAN TO BE A KING OF NOTHING!!!
